AIRMIC executive director, David Gamble, commented: “AIRMIC will consider this discussion document carefully and provide its views to the HSE’s task group in due course. However, even at first viewing, the proposal presents some significant issues. Before there is more regulation, the main causes of such accidents need to be established, along with a review of current action being taken by employers to manage such risks. Some companies are already involved in safe driver incentive schemes. Advisory guidelines and better publicity of best practice might prove easier to implement than further regulation, with its attendant policing
