In response to concerns over catastrophic tsunami in the Atlantic Basin, the US National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) intends to establish a tsunami early warning system in the region
NOAA plans to have seven deep ocean assessment and reporting of tsunamis (DART) buoys in place by 2007 - five in the Atlantic and a further two in the Caribbean. Although the Atlantic has hosted just 2% of all recorded tsunami, a real risk still exists.
