ALARM 2008 Conference

The 2008 ALARM Annual Conference, titled ‘Innovation, Inspiration and Information’ takes place against a backdrop of immense change in the public services, with the introduction of new risk-based CAA regulatory regimes, increased reliance on partnership working, and pressure from the government to ‘do less with more’. Incremental change is not enough in these times – success depends on the ability to innovate.

Good risk management is a key factor in delivering innovative projects and the ALARM Conference 2008 showcases risk management’s contribution to supporting innovation across the public services. The Conference sessions highlight how innovative public risk managers are themselves pushing forward the understanding and development of risk management. From developing cutting edge models of risk to integrating the latest technology in fraud prevention strategies, public risk managers are embracing innovation.

Inspiration comes from the keynote speakers, Peter Wilkinson, Managing Director of Policy, Research & Studies at the Audit Commission, and Heather Rabbatts CBE, Executive Deputy Chairman of Millwall FC who famously held the “worst job in local government” – the Chief Executive role in Lambeth.

Risk practitioners will be sharing information from the front line of some of the past year’s most high profile events in the educational workshops. Following the success of the streamed sessions at the 2007 Conference, ALARM is again offering delegates targeted workshops focussing on housing associations, the fire service, local government, police service, central government, health & safety, insurance and a general interest track. Delegates can chose workshops relating to their particular public service or mix and match sessions across the streams to create their own tailored programme.

The ALARM exhibition features more exhibitors than ever this year, with 30+ companies demonstrating the latest risk-related products and services.
