Support for AIRMIC's position on the future of employer's liability insurance came from the president of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Sir John Egan, who gave the AIRMIC annual lecture
Sir John said the most effective way for business to tackle the high cost of employer's liability insurance is to cut the size of claims by reducing the number of workplace deaths and injuries and better rehabilitating those who are injured.
He argued that the market, not the Government, would find a solution to the current difficulty of the employer's liability insurance system, but at the same time, he acknowledged that the current cost of insurance, especially employer's liability, was threatening the existence of many small companies.
