The percentage of people covered by employment-based health insurance decreased to 59.7% in 2006
The number of people living in the US without health insurance coverage rose from 44.8m (15.3%) in 2005 to 47m (15.8%) in 2006, according to a report released by the US Census Bureau.
The number of uninsured children increased from 8m (10.9%) in 2005 to 8.7m (11.7%) in 2006.
The number of people with health insurance increased to 249.8m in 2006 (up from 249m in 2005). In 2006, the number of people covered by private health insurance (201.7m) and the number of people covered by government health insurance (80.3m) were not statistically different from 2005.
The percentage of people covered by employment-based health insurance decreased to 59.7% in 2006, from 60.2% in 2005.
The percentage of people covered by government health programs decreased to 27.0% in 2006, from 27.3% in 2005.
The data was compiled from information collected in the 2007 Current Population Survey (CPS) Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC).
