LDA, Greater Manchester Fire Service and three County Councils pick up gongs
The London Development Agency, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, Derbyshire, Powys, and Sunderland County Councils all picked up gongs at the ALARM Annual Awards.
The ALARM Awards are given for excellence in the field of risk management in the public sector and are judged by a panel of experts from academia, local government and private sector insurance and risk firms.
Dr. David Hancock of the London Development Agency received the award of ALARM Risk Manager of the Year in recognition of his work in managing the risk posed to London taxpayers from projects such as the 2012 Games and for developing best practice guidelines for risk management that have been adopted by key public sector bodies across London.
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue won the People Risk Award for its initiative, Drive to Arrive, which, in enabling Manchester fire fighters to travel to incidents at high speed only when strictly necessary, has reduced injuries to the public by 75% over the past year.
Derbyshire County Council took the Asset Risk Award for its efforts to reduce theft of IT equipment from schools and other Council owned premises. The measures that Derbyshire put in place have reduced losses suffered by the Council by 82%.
Sunderland City Council’s Safer Sunderland Partnership was awarded with the Strategic Risk honour for its work in reducing actual crime and residents’ fear of crime in the Sunderland area.
Powys County Council ‘s work was recognised with the Operational Risk Award for its efforts to reduce the risk of motor accidents involving members of its staff, successfully cutting claims by 60%.
The winners were announced at the ALARM Annual Awards Dinner which took place at the ALARM Annual Conference in Birmingham on June 30.
