Swine flu is also being eyed in the death of a New York baby
Swine flu continues to make headlines around the world.
The Bulgarian Health Ministry confirmed the country’s first official case of A(H1N1), also known as swine flu, reported the Sofia Echo.
‘The virus was discovered on a Bulgarian citizen who flew from New York, via Amsterdam, and arrived at Sofia International Airport on May 27 2009’, said the news report.
After showing signs of the disease the man was hospitalised and isolated. He is reportedly in a stable condition.
Bulgaria’s Health Ministry is ready to take emergency measures if an outbreak spreads, the local media quoted official as saying.
In New York medical examiners are reportedly investigating whether swine flu is also responsibly for the death of a baby in the Bronx.
As many as four deaths have been linked to swine flu since the outbreak began in New York City in April, according to media reports.
As of 06:00 GMT, on June 1 2009, 62 countries had officially reported 17,410 cases of swine flu infection, including 115 deaths, said the World Health Organisation.
