IRM appoints new chairman

At its Annual General Meeting today, the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) appointed Simone Wray as its chairman for a one-year term.

Simone Wray is strategic risk manager for Warwickshire County Council. She is a Fellow of the IRM and has been involved with the Institute on a continuous basis since joining as a student. She has been a board director for the past eight years.

Wray said today: ‘The IRM has made tremendous progress over the past 12 months. It has built international relationships with bodies including the Swedish Risk Management Association and the Malaysian Insurance Institute, hosted dynamic events including the annual lecture and the Risk Forum, and launched an International Diploma qualification, which will meet the needs of enterprise risk professionals for the next decade.

‘Building on these strong foundations, as chairman I will continue focusing on our current priorities and business plan – ensuring that the right resources are in place to deliver them – as well as concentrating on increasing the engagement of the membership and getting them more involved in the IRM’s future direction. Next year will also be about promoting the International Diploma in Risk Management so that we can take it forward and deliver it on a truly international level.’

Paul Goulding, risk and insurance manager at News International and Andrew Keeling, head of group risk management and insurance at SAB Miller were both elected to the position of Deputy Chairman.
