Workplace injury and illness is wreaking enormous harm in British industry, says Alliance
A leading risk broker Alliance Corporate Risk Management has today spoken out in response to new research.
A new RSA survey said some 11.8m British people have incurred workplace injury or illness over the last year.
Lost working days resulting from such incidents have a significant impact on British industry, said Alliance.
The introduction of the new Corporate Manslaughter legislation prompted Alliance to urge British employers to adopt a more pre-emptive approach to safety.
“My view is that health and safety is an area where bosses could immediately start doing more to protect their bottom line.

‘The fact that so many people are still getting injured or ill in the UK workplace – despite the introduction of Corporate Manslaughter legislation – suggests that the issue of safeguarding staff still requires more emphasis’, said John McLaren Stewart, Alliance’s chief executive.
‘Risk management is absolutely vital in helping companies stay at their most effective and keeping employees healthy and safe no matter what type of work environment they are in.’
He added: ‘My view is that health and safety is an area where bosses could immediately start doing more to protect their bottom line. We actively work with employers to ensure that they are conscious of the risks in their particular industry and that they are doing all they can to prevent the chance of injury and illness.’
