WHO says pandemic ends after 14 months
Last year’s H1N1, or swine flu, pandemic has “largely run its course” 14 months after the pandemic warning was issued, according to Margaret Chan, director general of the World Health Organisaiton.
She said: "Globally, the levels and patterns of H1N1 transmission now being seen differ significantly from what was observed during the pandemic.
“Out-of-season outbreaks are no longer being reported in either the northern or southern hemisphere."
The pandemic was not as deadly as feared. In Britain it claimed the lives of 457 people. At one time it was feared as many as 65,000 people could die of it.
