New software allows companies to locate laptops with GPS and restrict access to data
Alcatel-Lucent has released a new version of its software for recovering stolen laptops and data.
Invented by the company’s research centre, Bell Labs, OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is designed to give companies 24/7 access to their employee laptops.
The company said the software would enable companies to locate stolen laptops with GPS and permanently shut them down even if they are turned off.
'[Alcatel-Lucent’s] recent study shows nearly three out of four IT security managers have had to help their company deal with the consequences of a lost or stolen company laptop,' explained Tom Burns, head of Alcatel-Lucent enterprise activities.
