Prize-winning risk managers and a respected member of the profession received awards at the AIRMIC annual dinner in London, which was attended by almost 800 members and guests, many from the insurance, broking, financial and risk service fields. Chairman Alan Fleming presented his chairman's award to Nick Hughes, a partner with Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, for his outstanding commitment to the association as the long-serving honorary secretary. Nick, whose father was a previous AIRMIC chairman, received an engraved clock to mark the honour.
Awards were also made to top student risk managers. Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) student Jill Dodds scooped two major awards, being presented with the Aon Risk Services prize for top student for corporate finance and investment studies at GCU and the Marsh prize for top student at GCU for corporate risk management. Gregor Miller gained the CGU prize for top CGU student for risk financing, while the AIRMIC prize for the best risk management result in last year's examinations went to Paul Watson, now working with Royal & SunAlliance. Cheques, certificates and other mementos were presented to the prize-winners.
During the dinner, generous diners made a cash-collection of almost £700 for the AIRMIC chairman's chosen charity, CHASE Children's Hospice Service.
