Ratings agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) has launched a guide to help businesses understand insurance ratings.
Inside View aims to provide policyholders with an understanding of the processes and methodologies that lie behind financial strength ratings. The guide is free to subscribers and is published fortnightly covering a different topic.
Issues to be addressed include: the influence that different markets and sectors have on ratings; how the peculiarities of the market are approached; S&P's default statistics; and the terminology of ratings.
S&P director Peter Hughes said: "Inside View aims to bring clarity to financial strength ratings and, therefore, confidence to the insured party regarding its chosen insurance carrier."
The first issue, "Under-standing Insurance Ratings", introduces the concept of ratings and the rating process.
